Nutrition Challenge

Next Kickoff Meeting is January 8th, 2012 at 1200PM.

You can’t outrain your diet.

We believe nutrition is the foundation of any good fitness program, and the gateway to good health. Without question, the single greatest variable facing your body composition and fitness goals is your nutrition. So we would be remiss if we didn’t provide you both some education and means by which to optimize your nutrition. We do this by offering up a Nutrition Challenge of sorts. You already come to CFSA and bust your ass on a weekly basis. But what you do in the gym is but a small part of the picture. It’s what you do on the outside of the gym – the other 23+ hours a day- that will make the biggest difference.

You have the capacity to undermine all of the potential benefits of your exercise program- CrossFit or otherwise, by making poor food choices. On the other hand, if you combine hard work both in and out of the gym, your will increase your rate of improvement exponentially.

For those that are willing to commit and make the sacrifice, we are willing to provide the education, support and if need be, cooking lessons, to support your efforts.

The Goals:

1) Change the way you think, feel and treat food.
2) Increase energy levels / improve athletic performance
3) Improve recovery from workings / nagging injuries
4) Look better nekid

The Challenge Itself:

Take 44 (6+ weeks) days to methodically overhaul how and what you eat. We will systematically eliminate unhealthy foods from your diet. There is no nutritional Switzerland- food either makes you more or less healthy. And we will work to remove all of the unhealthy foods from your life. It will take your body at least 4-5 weeks to reset its metabolism and heal itself from the inflammation you have created by shoving pizza and beer down your gullet.

The Structure:

We’ve tried running this program a number of different ways in the past. We’ve had a challenge in getting people to be 100% compliant to the program. And quite frankly, we aren’t interested in half-assed participation. You are either in or you are out. No program modifications. No half-assedness.

Cost:

Upfront: $50 for printed materials and running the challenge itself

Adherence Incentive: $50 per week (ie, 6 checks), provided upfront in check form. We’ll explain this more during the meeting, but each week you will have a different nutrition and writing goal. If you succeed in that week’s nutritional and writing goal, the $50 gets rolled into the next week.

If you are compliant all 6 weeks, you get all 6 of your adherence incentive checks back. The purpose of the adherence incentive is to make you think about what you are doing before you shove that cupcake in your face and to increase the consequences for bailing out after a few weeks of hard work. Money on the line == game time.

FAQ’s:

1- Can I do the program by myself? Sure, but you probably won’t be successful. No offense, but if you were that good that you could do this by yourself, then you wouldn’t need anything associated this Challenge. No need to ask us, just go do it.

2- Why is it so damn expensive?! $350 is a ton of money! It’s only expensive if you actively decide to make poor decisions and be non-compliant. No one accidentally trips and falls into a box of donuts. You are an adult. You decide what goes in your mouth.

3- I have a wedding / birthday / party / bachelor party during these 6 week. Can I get a pass? No. Life will be there before, after and during the Challenge. You need to figure out how to deal with these situations, not give yourself an excuse.

4- Why such a harsh stance? What if I want to just give a try for a few weeks instead? The reason we are taking a much firmer approach is that the half-assed people are sullying the good name of truly good nutritional habits. Someone who does our challenge but adds in alcohol or cookies isn’t doing our program. They are eating just less piss-poor than they usually do. And when they turn around and tell people that “it didn’t work for me” it sends the wrong message out to the world. You are welcome to try it for a few weeks, but you’ll still be playing by the same rules. You’ll just lose your accumulated adherence incentive for that week.

5- What happens to the adherence incentives at the end of the challenge? Seems like a great way for CFSA to make a ton of money if we make a mistake. CFSA won’t keep any of the adherence incentives. We’ll push it all back to you at the end. Our goal is to make sure that that everyone completes the challenge successfully and we receive no incentive money.

6- What are the different tasks I need to complete each week? What if I can’t do them?? None of the asks will be impossible. They may not be entirely pleasant or easy, but we aren’t asking you to perform impossible feats. One part will be a small writing assignment each week. Another portion of the week will be a nutritional ask, such as remove X food from meals or add Y food to each meal. Each day you will track when and what you eat. We’ll provide the changes for the following week on Friday/Saturday so you have the weekend to plan.

7- What about…? Look, this stuff is much better explained in person. Come to the kick-off meeting and we’ll talk it out. We want you to be successful. It won’t be easy. But it will be well worth it…
